Ep 28 – Green Talks Featuring Eco Troop foundation with Panchtatwa Girl

“The three R’s – reduce, reuse, and recycle help us to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away. They help conserve natural resources, landfill space, and energy. In addition, these three R’s save land and money that we use to dispose of waste in landfills. Reducing is simply creating less waste. It’s the best method for keeping the environment clean, so it’s the first of the 3 Rs. Plastic pollution may be addressed in multiple ways, with the concept of reducing, reusing, and recycling.

Plastic waste

Although, Plastic products have become an integral part of our daily life as a basic need. Its broad range of applications is in packaging films, wrapping materials, shopping and garbage bags, fluid containers, clothing, toys, household and industrial products, and building materials. It is a fact that plastics will never degrade and remains on the landscape for several years. Recycled plastics are more harmful to the environment than virgin products due to the mixing of color, additives, stabilizers, flame retardants, etc.

The visibility of plastic waste is increasing because of its accumulation in recent decades and its negative impact on the surrounding environment and human health. Often cows roam around dumping areas and they consume plastic waste. There are many ways to curb plastic waste—by producing less, consuming less, and better managing the waste that already exists to prevent contamination or leakage.

Management of plastic waste often starts at the household and individual levels, and strategies to educate and motivate citizens can dramatically change behavior.

EcoTroop Foundation

Based in Rohini, Delhi area they have garbage collection drives and even animal care centers. They are on a mission to stop plastic at its first stage before it reaches landfills. Their aim is to prevent more and more plastic from going to waste as most garbage is scattered on roads and animals feeding on it get sick. In big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai we have seen, a large number of cows gathering at every garbage corner. The cow eats this plastic in large quantities mistaking it for food and falls ill.

Their campaign is to stop plastic at the first stage of going into the garbage. For this, the EcoTroop team takes the plastic from you, no matter what kind of plastic it is, apart from plastic, newspapers, books, textiles, glass bottles, and others Whatever you want to donate, they deliver all these things to the right user on the basis of their quality.

From 1 November 2018 till now, they have collected 5000 kg of plastic preventing it from going to the garbage. And the amount received from the sale of 5000 kg of plastic, has been used to arrange fodder for cows. The entire amount was spent on the service of animals and will be done in the same way in the future also. What we throw as waste is now properly used for good of cattle’s making them healthy rather than making them ill or their cause of death.
