When I first heard about ‘The Life List’, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I thought it might just be another romantic drama, but little did I know that it would sweep me off my feet with its warmth and sincere storytelling. “The Life List” was akin to wrapping myself in a warm, comforting embrace. Directed by Adam Brooks and based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s novel, the movie is more than just a love story—it’s a beautiful ode to self-discovery, family bonds, and rekindling forgotten dreams.
The story revolves around Alex, played by Sofia Carson, who, after losing her mother, is given a list of 12 childhood dreams to accomplish in order to secure her inheritance. It’s such an intriguing premise because it’s not just about fulfilling obligations—it’s about revisiting the person she once was and reconnecting with her own heart. This element truly resonated with me. It made me think about the dreams I had as a child and how life’s practicalities often make us put them on the back burner.
Sofia Carson’s portrayal of Alex is heartwarming and relatable. I could feel her initial resistance slowly melt away as she embraced each challenge on the list. One of the most touching moments was when Alex, hesitant and unsure, tries painting again after years of neglecting her artistic side. It reminded me of how, sometimes, we all need a little push to reignite our passions.
Another most touching aspects that struck me was the portrayal of the mother-daughter bond. Connie Britton, as Elizabeth, plays her part so beautifully, leaving behind messages that guide Alex throughout her journey. There’s something incredibly touching about receiving wisdom from loved ones, even after they’re gone. It made me think of my own family and how the things they teach us can continue to shape us long after they’re no longer around.
The romance in the movie unfolds naturally. Kyle Allen as Brad brings an easygoing charm to the screen, and his chemistry with Alex feels genuine and unforced. Their connection adds a lighthearted touch to the otherwise reflective journey. I especially enjoyed the scene where they share a quiet moment in the park, talking about dreams and regrets—it was tender and real.

What makes ‘The Life List’ special is how it blends life lessons with lighthearted moments. It’s not preachy, but it gently nudges you to think about your own dreams and the importance of living life to the fullest. The cinematography complements the story with its cozy, autumnal hues, making the movie feel like a warm hug.
By the end, I found myself genuinely moved and inspired. “The Life List” is a heartwarming ode to rediscovering oneself and the timeless bonds that shape our lives. It’s a gentle reminder that revisiting our childhood dreams can lead to the most unexpected and fulfilling adventures, and it’s never too late to chase after the things that make you happy, even if they seem distant or unrealistic. If you’re looking for a film that makes you reflect while also warming your heart, combines romance, personal growth, and familial love, this one is definitely worth your time.
Have you watched ‘The Life List’? I’d love to hear your thoughts! What childhood dreams would you revisit if given the chance?
