The Old Peepal Tree – August Tree Love
Life is a breathtaking landscape of mountains and valleys, whose beauty can be experienced only when you have a bird view of it.- Surya Ramachandran
This is a beautiful Peepul tree from a popular religious place in Delhi. The tree is just outside the famous Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place.
The tree and its surrounding area are so lively that one can spend hours here. I am sure the tree has seen and heard millions of stories to date.
Pracheen Hanuman Mandir Dakshinmukh –
Sprawling temple, with gilded shrines & garlanded statues, that draws large numbers of worshippers. Reportedly, it was built originally by Maharaja Man Singh I of Amber (1540–1614) during Emperor Akbar’s (1542-1605) reign. It was reconstructed by Maharaja Jai Singh (1688-1743) in 1724, around the same time as the Jantar Mantar.
The Prachin Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place, New Delhi, India is an ancient temple considered a significant religious center in the city. The temple’s history is rich with myth and includes connections to the Mahabharata era, Mughal rule, and British influence
The temple also features several unique aspects, including:
- Swayambhu idol: The main idol is said to have emerged on its own.
- South-facing: The idol faces south, or dakshinmukhi.
- Child form: The idol depicts Hanuman in his baalroop form.
- Steeple: The temple has a steeple with gold paint and glasswork.
- Continuous chanting: Since August 1, 1964, the temple has been the site of a 24-hour, continuous chant of the Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram mantra, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The place is full of characters and stories all day long. The area has a different kind of vibe. Along with the temple, it also has tempting kachoris that you must try, along with ginger tea (adrak ki chai) from the 16-year-old tea stall.
You can even spot the roasted sweet potato/ bhuni huyi shakarkandi seller in the pic which I relished after I was done clicking pictures.
