MoM – Our personal stylist/ shopper/ chef/ assistant/ trainer

Lockdown made it harder

I had no choice but to be their personal assistant. Slowly it became a monster that would engulf me in a jungle of messages. There used to be a list of homework tasks and thousands of photos of books and exercise pages. Loads of photos filled up my phone’s memory to the extent that, whenever I tried to take a picture myself, I would get a “memory full” message. I’m sure moms globally had faced this role during the lockdown and till date when schools are living in our mobile screens.

“Mum, I have forgotten my copy of my maths exercises. Could you ask for it on the WhatsApp group?” Has it happened to you? I being a mindful, loving, and helpful mother – put the keys by the door, my handbag on a chair, took my phone out of my pocket and placed the shopping bags on the floor, checked the group, messaged his class mate’s mom and requested her to send the pending work. Multi-tasking in action.

What the heck am I doing? I thought. IT’S OVER. Online schools please no more… What do we get by taking care of our children’s diaries and being their personal helpers at all times? I’m not just talking about homework at home – that’s a different debate. I’m talking about that idea of becoming responsible for every single one of our kids’ movements, no matter how old they are, as if we were their guardian angels.

Potty Trainer

I caught you smiling, but that’s 100% true. Moms have only trained us for this. Days and months to teach and excel in how well trained her child turns out to be.
Along with this, she is also, Pooping doula—aka bathroom helper, poop coaxer, butt wiper. Now stop laughing and think of what all you had done… Oh My god!

“Mom, how do you know it all?”
“Mummy, how do you guess I need this?”
“Wow, mom how can you read my mind?”

Sometimes we shower kids with our anger or scolding but moms know it well how to manage the anger to her best.

My daughter is almost 12 years now, so I have made her my personal assistant. Also, she loves to cook so she prepares her own breakfast and helped me a lot in the kitchen during lockdown. Also, she has loads of comments on my dressing style so she has started styling me.

Yes! My mom has been all for me, my personal stylist/trainer/assistant, everything. No matter how many people accolade me, I get my solace in my mom’s thumb-ups. And the ritual continues in the next-gen too. Though I am on the other side of the table this time, I love it solely.

I like this styling part. It is so much fun dressing up and twinning with my girl. While they’re young I don’t mind being their assistant too. Bade hone ke baad, please manage on your own! 🙂
