MoM – Our personal stylist/ shopper/ chef/ assistant/ trainer
Lockdown made it harder
I had no choice but to be their personal assistant. Slowly it became a monster that would engulf me in a jungle of messages. There used to be a list of homework tasks and thousands of photos of books and exercise pages. Loads of photos filled up my phone’s memory to the extent that, whenever I tried to take a picture myself, I would get a “memory full” message. I’m sure moms globally had faced this role during the lockdown and till date when schools are living in our mobile screens.
“Mum, I have forgotten my copy of my maths exercises. Could you ask for it on the WhatsApp group?” Has it happened to you? I being a mindful, loving, and helpful mother – put the keys by the door, my handbag on a chair, took my phone out of my pocket and placed the shopping bags on the floor, checked the group, messaged his class mate’s mom and requested her to send the pending work. Multi-tasking in action.
What the heck am I doing? I thought. IT’S OVER. Online schools please no more… What do we get by taking care of our children’s diaries and being their personal helpers at all times? I’m not just talking about homework at home – that’s a different debate. I’m talking about that idea of becoming responsible for every single one of our kids’ movements, no matter how old they are, as if we were their guardian angels.
Personal stylist/ trainer
Who else but mother has decided since you were small on what hairstyle you will have and will suit your face too. She is your first hairstylist, Not just hair but also the outfit planner. Birthday party or marriage function, get together or picnics, she is our first personal shopper.
Personal chef
This chef has clients that may consist of picky eaters. Moms have excelled the art of feeding kids what they need but also include veggies and nutritious elements which are hidden nicely inside their favorite dish.
Potty Trainer
I caught you smiling, but that’s 100% true. Moms have only trained us for this. Days and months to teach and excel in how well trained her child turns out to be.
Along with this, she is also, Pooping doula—aka bathroom helper, poop coaxer, butt wiper. Now stop laughing and think of what all you had done… Oh My god!
Psychic
She is a reader of the minds, believe it or not, she is one guesser of the needs. Mom knows what her child needs when and how. She is even the predictor of the future.
“Mom, how do you know it all?”
“Mummy, how do you guess I need this?”
“Wow, mom how can you read my mind?”
PhD in Anger Management
Sometimes we shower kids with our anger or scolding but moms know it well how to manage the anger to her best.
Photographer
Mom was/ is my first photographer. Earlier we didn’t have mobiles still I remember my mom having an album full of my pics she had taken on varied occasions, moods, and moments. Go check the mobile of a mother, it will be flooded with pics of her children in all moods and types.
The pet caregiver
She is the dog walker, the litter box cleaner, the fish feeder. Mother our Personal groomer, our personal trainer/ shopper, and stylist too. She is our first painter and photographer too. She is also the PTA mom and also a Play-date Coordinator/ scheduler too.

Oh yes! I remember my mom not only styling me but also stitching my clothes …mom’s are free best.
Yes..Moms are all in one Personal assistant. I am thankful I don’t have small kids taking online classes. Last year when my grandson was here I used to do his project work though
My daughter is almost 12 years now, so I have made her my personal assistant. Also, she loves to cook so she prepares her own breakfast and helped me a lot in the kitchen during lockdown. Also, she has loads of comments on my dressing style so she has started styling me.
Agree buddy but I am glad not gradually I am getting some solace in the personal assistant role to my kiddo as he is growing up
Personal assistant role has become taxing specially with the pandemic second wave forcing children indoors again. Loved the link you added about personal assistant don’t really know if i can practically use it though. Wonderfully written
Agree we are definitely hold a personal assistant role.. We customize everything for them from food to clothes to games. I remember my mom doing it for me and now I am sailing in the same boat.
Yes. J have 2 Pre schoolers and online for these little kids are just crazy. I take notes for them as attention span for a 4-5 year old is so less.
Yes dear with this pandemic going on, we moms are feeling so stressed with pressure of multiple responsibilities. for kids also it is stressful time and they need our more personal attention and help.
True, children look to their mothers when they face any problem. They know that moms will do everything they can to support children.
I guess every one of us can relate to it perfectly!! With the new normal on the go, the moms have taken up this role too. And it was as hard to accept for a stay-at-home mom as for a working mom. But then, we are super mommies you know!! Took up the challenge and whoo!!
It was initially fun being the personal assistant but now I’m feeling the heat
Yes! My mom has been all for me, my personal stylist/trainer/assistant, everything. No matter how many people accolade me, I get my solace in my mom’s thumb-ups. And the ritual continues in the next-gen too. Though I am on the other side of the table this time, I love it solely.
I like this styling part. It is so much fun dressing up and twinning with my girl. While they’re young I don’t mind being their assistant too. Bade hone ke baad, please manage on your own! 🙂
To all you young mums, your children never really grow up and you will be a personal assistant all your life.
Totally agree with this pandemic going on, we moms have become personal assistant to our kids . This is really stressful at times.
Moms are Personal Assistants for life! Seeing from a kid’s perspective, it gives so much solace but when you think from the perspective of a mother, my God!
