Ep 15 – Green Talks with Panchtatwa Girl Ft. Sarai Bose discussing clean energy

A transition to clean energy is about making an investment in our future. – Gloria Reuben

When we often speak of clean and green earth one more thing comes into the picture that is clean and green energy. Yes, you heard me right, clean energy.

For over 150 years, our homes, offices, and factories depended on fossil fuels as their major source of energy. As a result, we now face pollution and climate change on a global level, along with other harmful impacts. This very realization prompts a clarion call for cleaner, renewable sources of energy. As humans when we are using available resources, Our energy consumption should not come at a cost to the environment. And here Renewable sources such as solar, wind, and biomass, make this possible.

In this episode of Green Talks, we have with us Sarai Bose a plant performance engineer discussing the transition, options, and challenges with clean energy in the present scenario. Sarai can be reached on Twitter or Instagram. He works in the power sector and specializes in Process optimization and performance improvement of conventional Power generation. You can even hear him on mentzaa where he often discusses the future of energy and efficiency and climate-related topics.

What Does Clean Energy Mean?

Clean energy is energy that comes from renewable, zero-emission sources that do not pollute the atmosphere when used, as well as energy saved by energy efficiency measures. So basically Renewable energy is also called “clean energy” or “green power” because it doesn’t pollute the air or the water

Sarai is working in the power sector and specializes in Process optimization and performance improvement of conventional Power generation. He has been involved with different industry sectors in various functions including installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of Power Stations in several countries. He has a deep interest in the Future Direction of Energy, Climate Change, and sustainability.

What is a renewable energy source?

A renewable energy source means energy that is sustainable – something that can’t run out, or is endless, like the sun. When you hear the term ‘alternative energy’ it’s usually referring to renewable energy sources too. It means sources of energy that are alternative to the most commonly used non-sustainable sources – like coal.

Energy use is changing fast. The shift to renewable sources, however, needs to happen faster, not just in power generation but in heating, buildings, and transport, to check the rise in global temperatures.

Why is it important to go towards a clean energy future?

The most important aspect of clean energy is the environmental benefits as part of a global energy future. While clean, renewable resources also preserve the world’s natural resources, they also reduce the risk of environmental disasters, such as fuel spills or the problems associated with natural gas leaks.

The clean energy transition means shifting energy production away from sources that release a lot of greenhouse gases, such as fossil fuels, to those that release little to no greenhouse gases. Nuclear power, the hydro, wind, and solar are some of these clean sources.

The most popular renewable energy sources currently are:

  1. Solar energy
  2. Wind energy
  3. Hydro energy
  4. Tidal energy
  5. Geothermal energy
  6. Biomass energy

An easy way to remember the differences between these different energy types is:

  • Clean energy = clean air
  • Green energy = natural sources
  • Renewable energy = recyclable sources
