Meet Davinder Singh of Apki Rasoi in #WATWB
Meet Davinder sing, computer Engineer,
winner at KBC 2018 season and
well known for his initiative ‘Aap Ki Rasoi’
He got the inspiration for this service as he had seen the elderly being taken care of in gurudwaras, he understood how serving food to the hungry was a form of service. Even when he was working with Infosys, in Pune, he use to carry food for kids at the Saraswati Orphanage. Early 2018 the news of the death of two children due to hunger in Delhi shocked him and he took up this cause to serve needy and fight hunger.
All these incidents made him think about ways to help the distressed and hungry children as well as people from economically-weaker sections. His elder brother Gurvinder Singh, his parents–Satnam Kaur and Manmohan Singh, wife Navneet Kaur and friend Karna, came forward to help him conceptualize and execute ‘Aap Ki Rasoi’. The sole idea of which was to feed the hungry on the streets of the city at a meager price of Rs 5.

Ravinder Singh, Apni rasoi
Davinder’s family cooks food every Friday night, which is then served to the hungry in various parts of the city on the following Saturday. Each person is served chapatis/ roti, sabzi/ vegetable, dal, and chawal/ rice. His team of family members and friends carry the food in their personal vehicles outside a Metro station or the bus stand.
I salute such change makers of the society and his feed the hungry mission.
