Green Talks Ep 36 – Listen to the journey of Tatsat Store and get to know the journey of a socially conscious store. Feat – Hema Narang
The environment is where we all meet, where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share. It is not only a mirror of ourselves but a focusing lens on what we can become.
-Lady Bird Johnson, Former First Lady of U.S.
Sustainable product design
Sustainable product design is the practice of designing products that have a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle. This includes the selection of materials, the manufacturing process, the use of the product, and its end-of-life disposal. Sustainable product design is an approach to creating products that consider the environmental, social, and economic impacts throughout their entire lifecycle. The goal is to minimize negative effects on the environment and society while still delivering functional and desirable products. Some of the key characteristics of sustainable product design include:
- The use of sustainable materials. This includes materials that are renewable, recyclable, or biodegradable.
- The use of energy-efficient manufacturing processes. This can help to reduce the environmental impact of the product’s production.
- The design of products that are durable and long-lasting. This can help to reduce the need for replacement products, which can have a significant environmental impact.
- The design of products that can be easily disassembled and recycled. This helps to ensure that the materials in the product can be reused or recycled at the end of its life.
Tatsat Store
Tatsat is a Sanskrit word that appears in Chapter 17 of the Bhagavad Gita, signifying truth and purity. It translates into “all that is true and pure”. Tatsat is a family-run social enterprise focusing on providing an array of sustainable, contemporary lifestyle products. It’s an alternative lifestyle store, where every product has a story to tell of its own. Sourcing from NGOs, self-help groups, green producers, tribal groups, individual artisans, and weavers, They have so far gradually expanded to over fifty groups spread all across the country.
Tatsat began as a “shop with a cause” and now has evolved into a “socially-conscious store”. Their focus on the 3 Ps of people, profit, and the planet has helped them achieve the fourth P of prosperity also. From a store in Hauz Khas in New Delhi, as well as a Souvenir store in Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, they are now taking the business online so that they can spread the joy and cheer that comes from being and buying organic. And every product in the store you see is eco-friendly and handcrafted. Do Check their Instagram handle for more product updates. Tatsat is also available on Facebook and Amazon too.
